a warm bed covering made of padding enclosed between layers of fabric and kept in place by lines of stitching, typically applied in a decorative design.
Truth be told these layers are so much more.
Quilts tell a story. With each small bit of fabric stitched together, someone poured themselves into the project. They shared their time, love, talent and skill.
“…many times when a woman is deceased, her pots and pans are given away, her furniture is given away, maybe there is a piece of jewelry that stays with the family, but invariably, if she was a quilt maker, the quilt is still there, saying ‘I was here, I was here.’ ” (Alliance for American Quilt Video)
While I love to sew I do not consider myself a “Quilter”. (I reserve that title for the masters.) I do however, like to dabble in the art form.
So, this week I am wrapping up my very first quilt for The Alliance for American Quilts.
The deadline is approaching and my project is almost complete. The final shape of the quilt will be in the shape of a house just like the logo. I wanted to keep it fun. Over the weekend my daughter was coloring and drew window boxes. I thought it was so cute and followed her lead! (thanks Amanda! xoxo)
Here are a few sneak peaks…
If you love to sew, I encourage you to look into local organizations. There are many others out there that share your passion.
Clearly, I am one of them!
