{How To} Peacock Pillow -Enchanted Makeovers

A few weeks ago I shared my peacock pillow design on Facebook and based on your response, the design is a hit!  This pattern has been created for a very special project with Enchanted Makeovers.

Peacock Pillow

How to make a Peacock Pillow by The Sewing Loft

Today, I am sharing the full how to and pattern for you to make your very own pillow to pass along.

This project is for all levels.

Skill Level- 1 Button

Materials:

  • base fabric to cover pillow
  • colored fabrics for appliqué (reclaimed tees)
  • double-sided fusible
  • pillow insert
  • embroidery thread *optional*
Tools:
  • Sewing Machine
  • Iron
  • basic sewing supplies
Pattern:
Click Peacock Pillow Pattern  to download pattern file.

Basic Instructions:

  1. Measure your pillow to determine the base fabric size. Don’t forget to add seam allowance. See easy pillow cover instructions here.
  2. Trace pattern pieces onto fusible. Following the directions on package, apply the fusible to the wrong side of fabric; cut out pieces.
  3. Position body on lower center of pillow.  Once you are happy with placement, peel the backer paper of fusible off; place and iron as directed on packaging.
  4. Continue to place feathers and fuse in place.  I like to start at the bottom and work from side to side. This will help keep the appliqué uniform in shape.
  5. You may wish to add a straight stitch or zig zag stitch along the edge of appliqué for that extra detail.
  6. I like to add simple hand stitching around the upper feathers to enhance that handmade look.

  3. KINDA NEW TO THE SEWING WORLD! I WAS WONDERING WHAT KIND OF FUSIBLE SHOULD I USE? JUST FOUND YOUR WEBSITE AND I AM IN LOVE!!

    • Hello Tracy,
Welcome to the world of Stitching!!
We are a great community and are always here to help. There are many different options in the fusible world so, I will just name a few brands in no particular order.
Heath n Bond- offers (I believe) two different versions that you can purchase at your local craft supply store or Walmart in pre packaged sized.
Pellon – offers a line of Wonder Under that comes in different weights. This can be purchased at your local fabric store and is sold by the yard.
The Warm Company- offers a line of Steam a Seam. This line can be found at your local craft store and is sold in package form. They offer a line of sheets and smaller sizes.
I believe that all brands can be purchased on line. I hope that helps get your needles moving! Keep me posted on your pillow project, I would love to see it when done!

      ~Heather
