Quilts and other fun stuff I have worked on all year. 🙂 The best gift handmade gift I ever received is a toss-up between a Sewing desk my husband built me from scratch which is BEAUTIFUL as well as functional or the memory quilt that my godmother made me just before she passed on.

    I’ve never received a homemade gift, but I have given them. When I was in nursing school gifts were not in my budget, but, I made several scarfs for my whole family and considering it was over 40yrs ago, I’m proud to admit they still wear them.

  9. The best handmade gift I have received was from my mother. She made me a flannel queen quilt for winter and the backing was kitty flannel. The top was the deck of cards design. Great colors and oh, so cozy in winter!

  12. The best handmade gift I have received as an adult is a mophead doll. A special friend gave it to me and I treasure it. I also treasure a baby quilt made for me before I was born by my grandmother and aunt. It is made up of squares with blanket stitched, hand appliqued bunnies. It is adorable.

  21. I cherish all the handmade gifts I have received from my children over the years, but I could never pick a favorite of those. I do love the necklace that my son’s mother-in-law made for me. She is a sweet person, who I am glad to have as part of our family now.

  24. Best homemade gift I ever got hands down was a quilt blanket made of all different sheets that she created a quilt out of instead of just throwing them away, matter of mine was only one of like 3 I think that she made from those old sheets my grandma, and I still own it today!

  40. It is hard to think of the best hand made gift. I am not sure if this counts, but one year my mother gave me a week of sewing help for part of my Christmas gift. It was wonderful! That spring she came to my house and we sewed. I did the machine work, and she did the pressing, pinning and basting. We sure got a lot done that week. The since of accomplishment was wonderful.

    My first homemade gift that I still treasure is my Christmas stocking my Grandmother made in 1954. I still have it. Made from red wool and sewn and with wool felt appliqués. It has stood the test of time and is one of a kind!

    The best gift from my mother, is my Double Wedding Ring Quilt….all quilted by hand & is still beautiful today after 25 yrs.

  73. My mom was a beautiful seamstress and made most of my clothes when I was young. I recall one Christmas when the budget was very tight that she made me all kinds of outfits to wrap up for under the tree. She added a few bargain purchases to go with it, but the love in those handmade items was a wonderful gift that felt like warm hugs to wear.

  74. A friend from high school gifted me a crochet blanket and it has traveled the world with me! We have exchanged baby blankets – home/handmade is SO special!

  76. My great grandmother was a seamstress who sewed for the public. My grandmother (her daughter) made me so many beautiful handmade gifts over the years that it is really hard to say which I loved most. One of the most intricate things she made me was indeed my stocking which was made of red wool felt and had the most beautiful appliques of angels, flowers, jingle bells and sequins. She also made some amazing miniature dolls that were ornaments we hung on the tree every year.

Also, for my husband’s and my first Christmas together, my brother knit us Christmas stockings that were connected like a pair of tights with a silhouette of a women on one leg and a man on the other – – I’ve never seen another like it!

  83. I am usually the one making handmade gifts but years ago my mom made beautiful Christmas ornaments and even though she has been gone for 15 years I love those ornaments and look forward to using them every year on my tree.

  84. The best handmade gift I have ever received was a handmade wooden spoon made by my son at school. It doesn’t function very well as a spoon but I have found other ways to use it in the kitchen and I use it nearly every day and would never part with it, it means so much to me as it was made with so much love and care. Handmade gifts are extraordinary and are irreplaceable, they touch our souls. They are like giving a piece of our hearts to another person.

    My favorite was a set of yarn wrapped sparkling cider bottles. On the front of each was a letter to spell out the word ‘Love’, made out of buttons, fabric flowers, and yarn. It’s my favorite home decor piece!

    When I was thirteen and graduating from 8th grade to high school a woman, who was like a Grandma to me, copied a RTW dress. We couldn’t afford the one from the store so my Mom bought the material for her to make the dress for me. I actually still have it 15 years later.

    The best handmade gift I ever received is a crocheted vest made by a very special lady. My friend, Ms. Dale, was a pro at doing crochet. She made many, many items and always shared her creations with those she loved. My blessed gift from her is a long sleeve white vest with the pineapple design. It is hip length long and ties in the front. I cherish it very much. Ms. Dale passed away eight years ago and she is terribly missed. My second favorite handmade gift is a crochet white collar given to me by my dear friend Lisa as a birthday gift many years ago. Sadly, Lisa died in a head-on collision ten years ago. I truly felt like she was my soul sister. This giveaway reminded me of these special people and memories that I will always hold in my heart. Thank you!

  97. My mom made my son an advent activity calendar. The gift was really for him but the whole family gets to enjoy the fun Christmas activities and is a great way to make sure we all spend some time together every day during the hectic holiday season.

    Best handmade gift I ever received was a set of four framed hand-embroidered images of little girls in old-time clothing doing sweet tasks like ironing, cooking, reading, and sewing. My grandmother made them for me when I was four, the message on the back read “Made for Lynnsey with love, 1974”.
