Today, I am going to share an easy technique –

Reverse applique!

This project is for all levels.

Skill Level- 1 Button

In all seriousness, if you can stitch on the machine, you can reverse appliqué.

Materials:

  • scrap fabric
Tools:
  • sewing machine
  • thread

Basic Instructions:

  1. To start, stitch your under layer to the back side of your fabric.  (for my example, I also attached an additional layer of denim.)
  2. Draw your appliqué design with a disappearing pen and on the right side of your fabric straight stitch all around the design.  **Tip- be sure that your design is large enough to expose the under layer when everything is cut away.
  3. After stitching your design, it is time to iron that disappearing ink away!
  4. To reveal the reverse appliqué, trim away the upper layer of fabric with a small pair of scissors.  You want to trim the fabric on the inside of the design; leaving about 1/8″ of seam allowance from the stitch line.
That’s it – Super simple!!
