It’s that time of year when the leaves are turning, the air is crisp and the pumpkins are rip for picking! Look at all these amazing pumpkins at our local farmers market. I just LOVE my Saturday shopping trips there!
This year we were invited to a neighbors house for a pumpkin carving party. Don’t laugh but standard fare for us is drawing on the pumpkin, struggling to carve it and fighting over who is sticking their hand inside to scoop out the goo. But this year, the “party” changed everything. The kids were super excited and dug right in!!! They did it all! (YAY- Nancy…. you are so on the hook for next year!)
Since the party was all about the kids I wanted to do something fun. Last week I shared this super cute idea for candy witch hats. Click here for the details. (curtousy of All Things for Mom & Passion for Parties) Here is a quick picture of mine.
On a side note here- I am so not the paper crafter. But the “how to” seemed super simple so- I gave it a try! To be fair, I did not have enough black paper for the bottom of the hats and needed to use a paper bag to finish the job. Again, I mention, I am not a paper crafter! Clearly, I had no idea how much paper to buy. The original party hats were super fun and had more detail. I simplified for my skill level and time commitment. They were a huge hit with the kids!
The night wrapped up with all kids digging in to the carving session.
I soon learned that tools are soooo important here! The hosts had enough to go around. Clearly, they are pros!
The night was a huge hit with the kids singing camp songs by the fire, pumpkin carving, hot cider and good friends! It was a memory maker.
The one thing I learned from the pumpkin farmer- to preserve your pumpkin after carving- rub the inside with Vaseline. This will help extend it’s life. Not sure how- he mentioned something about preventing mold and I was in.
