Today’s post combines a two of my favorite things- snail mail and sewing! Our friends over at Dritz just launched their fantastic new site filled with all sorts of sewing goodness including projects, tips and you guessed it notions & tools! To help celebrate, my friend Jennifer from Ellison Lane issued a challenge of sorts….
Use 5 items from a mystery filled box of happy mail from Dritz in a sewing project. Right away, I knew I was up for the challenge. Here is a quick picture of my happy mail mystery box.
My tools of choice:
- rotary cutter
- self healing mat
- point turner & seam creaser
- glittery gold elastic
- sewing needles
The big question looming over me was: “What I going to make?” Well, at first I had no clue but since I had this amazing stack of mini dots from Moda sitting on my desk for weeks, I knew they had to be part of the equation. I quickly went to work stitching these babies together into half square triangles and before I knew it, I was chain piecing.
Then it hit me! Why not make these pretties into a cute zippy bag for all my new sewing supplies. So, I grabbed this pattern and went to work.
With a few zips around the machine, the main body of the bag was created. Now it was time to add a few rows of quilting and a running stitch of embroidery thread.
After a quick pass with a hot iron my disappearing ink line was gone in a flash and it was assembly time!
I made a cute little glittery loop on the side, sandwiched it between my layers and stitched everything together. The point turner gave my scissors a break and made life easy. (This was a tool that I have never actually used before and I’m super lucky to have it in my tool bag.)
And did I mention there is a giveaway??? That’s right, 3 lucky readers will receive the same box filled with goodies from Dritz. Hop on over to Ellison Lane to read all about it and enter. Wishing you the best of luck!
Sending out a big Thank You to Jennifer of Ellison Lane and Dritz for inviting me to the Dritz Mystery Box Challenge.

My favorite or my most used Dritz tool? Probably one and the same as I can’t live without several of them!! My seam ripper, of course!! One of the first Dritz tools I owned. I think I still have that first one. If only I could find half a dozen exactly like it now,,, 50 years later!

It’s hard to choose a favorite. However, probably the most used one is the tomato pin cushion I bought for Home Ec in the 1950’s.

My Dritz seam rippers are an extension of my hand. I keep one in each room that I sew. I also rely on Dritz needles and recently completed a drapery project using Dritz Grommets.
