It’s the last week of July and let’s just say…. the heat is on!! It’s been one busy summer and I’ve had very little time for sewing. That’s why I just love this design. This weeks empathetic quilt block was worth every second at the machine!
Summer is always such a busy time of the year and it’s hard to stay committed to a project but this Friendship quilt has been the perfect design! Each week, I have been dedicating a few minutes to sit and sew at the machine. Just having a simple block to complete each week has made this a guilt free project.

Empathetic Quilt Block:
You will need to make 4 empathetic quilt blocks in different color ways to complete the Friendship quilt top. I suggest you consider this your invitation to get friendly and play with color.
Last week while making the Humorous block, I determined that the block size did not provide enough room for me to stitch as freely as I would like. To improve this, I basted my blocks to a large piece of tear away stabilizer. This additional support provided me with more surface room to work.
So, after cutting my block fabrics, I attached them to a large piece of tear away stabilizer. Not only does this allow me more room to play but the stabilizer provides an additional layer to the project than the thin layer of quilters cotton.
Once tacked down, I can move the fabric around as I want and not worry about the size. It really made things so much easier. Plus, when I’m finished I can either leave the stabilizer to dissolve during washing or tear it away.
Let’s take a look at how my finished Empathetic block turned out.
