I am excited to see one of my designs released in the new book Fun-Size Quilts, published by Martingale.
I should start off by sharing that projects like this take forever! I actually designed and created this pattern over 1 year ago. The design process was pretty scary for me since as you all know, I am not a seasoned quilter. I mean sure, I have created quilts for others and love to sew but there is SO much crazy talent in this field that I was totally nervous to submit. But I pulled up my big girl pants and sent in a sketch.
When I got the acceptance letter back I really didn’t know what to think. I was filled with mixed emotions- shocked, surprise and excitement were just a few. But then that inner voice started talking in my ear and I got nervous. What if my piece stuck out in the worst of ways….. It would be in print and out there for all to see. So nervous! I ‘m not gonna lie, I was stressed and pushed the project to the back burner.
As the deadline grew close, my stress levels kicked in and I focused on the techniques. I love those details and in the end, I think the bright colors and fun patterns shine through.
I hope you enjoy the wide variety offered within Fun-Size Quilts. Here are a few of my favorites.
Quilts by: Missy Shepler | Debbie Grifka | Julie Herman

I love big quilts but we have no need for more so mini’s might have to be the way forward!
I love the good old patchwork quilts – these are by far my favorite.
heather, I just love your mini quilt with its colors and curves and details! I want to make one too! My favorite style is anything modern, like yours with appliqué and details.
I like all types of quilting. My latest fav is QAYG.
Although I get great pleasure from the more cute whimsical
Subjects, my real love is bright abstract patterns that burn the back of your eyes on contact.
I’m at heart a traditional girl. My favorites are pieced blocks of almost any design.
Sylvia
I like this flower quilt. I love flowers and like to take pictures and can see them on quilt tops. I often put flowers on my modern quilt designs.
Love, Love, LOVE the fun sized quilts! I was really drawn in by the “Garden Variety” pattern! So fun!
You are so very talented and I just love your Variety mini quilt. I would be so honored to win my own copy of Fun-size Quilt book for myself. Would love to make a mini quilt for myself. There are so many minis to choose from that you are so inspired to make them all.

I love the visual drama of Modern quilts. The strong, bold designs are wonderful
I adore traditional pieced quilts…but trying out all types of quilts and techniques as I am a newbie quilter.
Love log cabin quilts and other quilt with lots if bright colors. I always seem drawn to scrap quilts.
My favorite quilts tend to be traditional, and hand applique has stolen my heart, the sewing machine is often heard sobbing in the corner…that said, I am drawn to the bright fabrics and whimsical nature of many modern styles, like those on your blog! Maybe I should just admit that I love them all! Thanks for the chance to win the new Ebook!
your quilt is so fresh clean colorful deign graphic – great for a sunroom wall
I enjoy receiving your blog each day. I have learning a lot. I would really love to have this book.
I don’t know that I have a favorite style, it depends on my mood to be honest. I started out with appliqué but haven’t done much with that lately. I don’t do much embroidery but I might sometime!
How wonderfully exciting to be published in a book ! Congratulations to you !!
You want me to what ? Pick my favorite ? OH boy,oh boy !LOL Well lets see: Tumbler, Grandma’s garden, stripes, cathedral block .. so many faves I could go on .. LOL
Thanks for the chance to win the book that you are published in !
I love the small wall quilts because it allows me, as a beginner, to practice many techniques on a piece that is not over whelming in size. It is so much easier to handle a small quilt in the process of free motion quilting as well as many different types of quilt blocks.
I love doing applique style quilts. I just finished a Thimbleberries mini christmas quilt(my first mini). The tiny pieces were a challenge. I like your design.
I love to make lap quilts or table runners. Snuggling up in a cozy quilt is like living in the lap of luxury!
The quilts I make most often utilize quick piecing techniques and bright colors as I have donated hundreds of kids quilts to charity. When making quilts for myself? Well small pieces, intricate, batiks are my current favorites!
I love applique quilts, but love scrappy piecing as well.
I love modern quilts !
I love the quilts—-what a great book—thanks for the chance to win it…..Love your blog…
I am drawn to 9-patch quilts like Irish Chain. rozz01at cox.net
I think my favorite types of quilts are anything that you can make out of scraps that help you remember what you have made over the years
I love doing Hand Turned Appliqué, so your new book looks like something I would enjoy. Kudos on the release.
I’ve only made a strip quilt before and I love it! But I’m wanting to try a more modern quilt with some bright colors for my daughter’s room.
Wow that pattern is so cute and hooray for having a pattern published!! I am fairly new to quilting but I noticed that I tend to like quilts that are a little more patchwork-y. lol
I love to make large couch sized quilts–can almost fit a double bed, but large enough on couch to cover six foot people (several in my family!). My favourite method is quick piecing but am enjoying the slow process of English paper piecing now
I love traditional blocks, but with solids or bold modern fabric 🙂
Wow! Fantastic job on the little quilt! I am not a quilter but would like to start. I think a mini might be a fun place to start. Thanks for all your inspiration!
Love the book. That’s one for my list to get.
I’d say my favorite quilt style is detailed, whimsical and usually uses at least some foundation piecing (or paper-piecing). I tend to mix techniques often and try to use whatever fabrics I have on hand.
I love to do appliqué quilts change fabrics and a little twist to the design and a whole new look your flowers are sooooo very cheerful
Can not wait to see the pattern
Ruth
I like many types of quilts, especially ones with bright colors. Your mini is very cute!
My favorite quilts are “theme” quilts. Thanks for the chance to win!
I love applique any type.
I love your block because I love to applique. It is gorgeous. You worries were unfounded.
I love making miniature quilts of all varieties to put up on my sewing room wall.
Applique has always been my main attraction in quilting…piecing precisely is just not my cup of tea!
This book looks super fun! These days I’m really attracted to both modern quilting designs and applique and it looks like a lot of the patterns in this book would fit the bill.
Your design is adorable!! I love applique….it’s my fave. And yours is awesome! I also love artsy art quilts.
Thanks for the chance to win!
I’m a new quilter, and so far I’ve loved every type of quilt I’ve tried! But small ones like wall hangings are best for me since I live on a boat and have really limited space to sew. I’m looking forward to trying a few from this book.
I love whimsy quilts… so fun and easy to create and LOVE to give away!
Congratulations! It would be difficult to pick just one type of quilt as a favorite but I really love log cabin blocks!
I’m more of traditional quilter. But, after seeing some of the more modern fabrics, I would love to try working with those fabrics. And of course I love applique, so Garden Variety is right up my alley
You did a great job on your quilt. It was one of them that caught my eye first as I was looking at all those in this book.
I hope you won’t disqualify me, but I honestly don’t have a favorite quilt style. I really love so many of them and can’t decide myself. I do know when looking at quilts in the window of quilt shop, the one that always seems to catch my eye first tends to end up being an applique quilt which is kind of funny as I’ve not done applique yet. I think maybe I need to remedy that since they are always the first I am drawn to. I wonder if maybe that will be my favorite quilt style once I do try one.
This book looks like so much fun! My favorite type of quilt is a planned scrappy one.
Congratulations to you for getting selected for the book!!
I’m just beginning to do applique. I’m addicted now and everything I see I want to do on fabric. My mom and I quilted together and she had a passion for applique work.
Thank you for all you contribute to this art form.
i love traditional style patchwork quilts but I also love applique, yo-yo’s and Cathedral Windows. I love the pinwheels an the fox on the cover. Not so crazy about modern “art” quilts and I really don’t like photo quilts. Good thing there are so many different types of quilts out there; something for everyone!
i love pieced quilts, paper pieced. although I’ve never been brave enough to try one myself!
My favorite, by far, are bargello quilts!! They look so incredibly impressive, and yet, at least for me, they have been the simplest quilts to put together. I love the monochromatic quilt colors best!
Looks like fun
Applique quilts are my favorite . I love the bright colors you choose so pretty.
that’s so exciting! Love these flowers! I really love cathedral window quilts (I’m attempting to make one for your swap right now, we’ll see if I end up sending it) and I love modern quilts!
I love to make quick quilts which are usually the smaller size. I get all worked up trying to do the larger ones. I enjoy quilting so very much that I keep to what makes me more comfortable. Love the idea of calling them FUN SIZE.
love knowing what you can do with a fat quarter
My favorite style is modern quilts. Thanks!
I’m still learning to quilt – so mini-quilts seem like a great idea to me!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your quilt! I’ve been called a free spirit and really like quilts that aren’t “fussy” and ones that look happy and fun. ☺ Thanks a bunch for the chance to win!
my nana maree @ yahoo . com
Mini quilts are my favorite to make! I have always loved traditional quilts made from reproduction fabrics but have started to gravitate toward a more modern style lately.
I like fairly Modern quilts
Mini quilts are great for trying a complicated technique that you wouldn’t want to do for a full quilt (and then decorate your sewing space with them) but I think lap quilts are the most useful size!
My favorite type of quilt is the one I am working on….changes all the time
I just love the old fashion quilts like Double Wedding Ring & my Grandma’s Flower Garden( not sure if this is the correct name but it is what my grandma called hers!!). But just love the bright Bordellos too.
My favorite quilts are the old fashioned style pieced quilts. Think 1930’s.
Your big-girl panties did you proud – your quilt is adorable! Fresh like a summer garden! I have really gotten interested in modern quilting, so all these minis are perfect!!!
My favorite quilt style would be a tie between hand appliqué and paper piecing!
My favorite type of quilt? I think I love hand applique especially when done by a master. I cannot believe the intricacies of the itty bitty pieces! I love doing it too and the more I practice the better it gets. I am also a huge fan of paper pieced patterns by Judy Niemeyer.
I enjoy most all quilt designs. I lean towards planned scrappy when I make them myself.
Would love to try and make a mini quilt!
I love rag quilts because they are so forgiving.
I love to make small projects – like wall hangings, mini quilts, and table runners. I have a wall of mini quilts above my sewing machine. Thanks for the give away!
My favorite type of quilt is fast! 🙂 I primarily make large quilts but I do love the look of mini quilts.
Your quilt it darling! I like applique because of all the different colors that you can easily add.
I love flannel rag quilts. Thanks!
My favorite quilt is always the one I just finished!
I have really become a fan of all the modern quilters!
I have always loved little things and bright colors, and in quilts, the same applies. I don’t do bed quilts. I make postcard quilts and small art quilts. I think your design is adorable, and the bright colors make me happy. You did an amazing job!!!
I love scrappy using blocks or strips!
I love any type of modern quilt or one with modern fabrics! I love your mini quilt!
I love making wall hangings and minis.
My favorite style are traditional quilts but I am trying more appliqué fun quilts lately.
I love to do embroidery or applique on my small quilts or table runners!!!!!!
I love modern type quits and would also like to try a quilt like yours. Thanks.
I really love making my owb original art quilts. Oh I make quilts from patterns as well, but usually tweak them a bit so they’re not carbon copies.
Because i have one year old and 4 year old granddaughters, i love doll sized quilts. i love the sweet colors especially pink and turquoise. i also love pink and green and pink and brown and pink and gray and pink and pink and pink! i love to watch them cuddle their dollies in those lovely little bwankies.
I love all types of quilts; but, I tend to make traditional quilts with a twist of my own.
My favourite type of quilt to make right now is Pinwheel quilts – I can’t seem to get enough of them – will have to make the mini Sunshine pinwheel quilt in this book first of course.

I love making rag quilts and now I am going to try a Puff quilt.
Hi Heather, you had nothing to worry about, your mini quilt is just wonderful!
I’m all over the board on what my favorite is, it really depends on the day/hour/minute. But I will say I’m really drawn to simply quilts using pretty fabrics.
Hello Heather, Congrats on your inclusion in a great titled book…..What fun is that going to be walking around a sewing shop and being able to say, Hey, they have the book with the quilt I designed here….The applique method is one that I have been exploring this year, I have been using many EPP projects and instead used them as applique…I also just discovered the cute look of coloring books and using bright fabric and black lines….So much fun to make..I like mug rugs, lunch rugs, just a bit larger than placemats, and of course the wall hanging size from 14″ to 26″ sq.s……
Wanting to participate in the drawing of the Mini Quilt Book, with the Sewing Loft& Martingale’s cooperation sharing project! I really like the mini quilts & can’t wait to make one! I think the doonervthe better!
I love to make Quilts from old T Shirts! I hope I win the book! It looks Great!!
I’m a fan of the modern interpretations of vintage blocks.
My favorite type of quilting is Paper Piecing Quilts, followed tightly by quilting with appliqué… Please enter me in the drawing for the book on Mini Quilts, and thank you making this opportunity posdible!
I like using traditional patterns using modern fabrics! I like scrappy quilts as well!
My favorite quilt is almost anything scrappy. Love looking at fabrics and how scrap quilts make ugly fabrics sing.
I like traditional-looking quilts AND modern quilts. Not too much loft. Wish I could quell the perfectionism and actually make one.
i love twin size because they are easier to quilt
I love the idea of these fun-sized quilts, as I like to make smaller things rather than bed-sized quilts.
My favorite types of quilts are flannel because they are soft.
Very interested in your book. I mainly work with wall hangings. Just finished my first large quilt, a tshirt quilt.
Thank you for the giveaway! I like baby quilts b/c they are smaller and faster to complete….so the fun size idea is perfect for me! 🙂
I have yet to make a mini quilt. The mini quilt swap is the first swap I am a part of and the first mini quilt I will sew. I’ve only made baby quilts and have used 5″ squares of coordinating fabrics as my quilt tops. Looking forward to learning new techniques to incorporate into my quilting.
I love pieced quilts and am learning appliqué, which is kinda scary too. For me at least. 🙂
I like the “Skyline” quilt in the book. Thanks for the opportunity to win!
I like modern quilts that are what I call organized or planned scrappy. By that I mean random placement of blocks on a background.
(Whining)…You want me to pick just ONE style or type of quilt before I can enter the contest?
I love scrap quilts. The more variety of fabrics, the better!
WOW – I love so many different styles of quilts but am new so I am having a hard time trying to pick just one to start. Getting ready to make my mind up and just do it. Your patterns look so cute and instructions so easy and helpful. Can’t wait to see if I win. Thanks
I’ve been sewing for over 45 years, but I’m fairly new to quilting, so I haven’t settled on any favorites yet. However, I’m very drawn to mini quilts and quilted bags.
I love an old fashioned pinwheel quilt!!!
My favorite quilts to make are modern designs especially in batiks or Cherrywood.
Your quilt is super cute and cheery! I’ve only made a few quilts so far and they’ve been what I would call modern but I am trying to teach myself other types. Thanks for the giveaway!
Scrappy quilts are my favorite
I like to try a different pattern with every quilt. Usually I do pieced tops. I also enjoy adding some applique. I have the longest list of quilts I want to make!
I love making minis, table runners and smaller projects
My fav right now is modern applique!
My favorite quilt is one that is done!!!
I love modern quilts!
I love bright rainbow colored quilts in any pattern. I adore wedding ring quilts though I am terrified to even try one yet. My goal right now is to make a log cabin quilt.
I love bargello quilts.
I am always drawn to quiltw, whether appliqued or pieced, that incorporate lots of colours and patters. This always evokes the feeling of a home surrounded by love and joy.
Sorry for the typos!
Thanks for the giveaway! I like to applique small wall hangings.
Hi Heather! What a fun pattern! I’d love to win a copy of the ebook!
I generally like modern quilts like the triangle one you selected or the grey and orange one on the cover.
I love the look of modern quilts.
I’m loving the Modern quilt movement and low volume quilts.
I love your quilt, what a great wall hanging it would make. I have been making a lot of lap robes with 6″ squares the past couple of years for nursing homes, they aren’t hard but they turn out pretty. I would like to expand my “quilting” skills.
I like to do small projects the most. I’m very impatient & want to finish yesterday. ;o)
Looking at this book makes me believe my favorite quilts will be minis–can’t wait to make several of these.
I imagine your stress level was high! Not to worry, right? You made a gorgeous mini! This is going to be a great book to have!
I’m kind of an improv. modern quilter. I did just finish 2 mini’s myself…so fun to do!
I love Cathedral Windows quilts and one day I will make one!
I really love applique, there are so many possibilities. Your quilt jumped right out at me when I was looking through them.
I’m not sure what you mean by type or style of quilt, but I love making baby quilts. The satisfaction of seeing the design completed, quilted and bound comes so much faster than in a big quilt. (I’m excited to do my first mini quilt in the swap!) And style? Simple and bright are my favorites.
I love so many styles of quilting, I can’t pick just one but right now I’m into scrappy with a traditional style block and lots of Modern!
I love lap quilts.
I love postage stamp quilts and scrap quilts and have several of these projects going on currently.
i love work on mini quilts, you have a fast finish and you can try a lot of techniques. Thanks
My favorite type of quilt is a generous lap size or bed quilt.
I love your free style applique – small quilts….what an honor to be published…the book looks really exciting.
I like to make quilts with circles. I don’t know why-I just do. I am also quite fond of Dresden and whirlygig styles.
Love to snuggle under a lap quilt. Doesn’t matter the time of year – hot or cold out – it is fun to relax and watch tv or read a book under a lap quilt.
I love more modern looking quilt styles, but really I just like making quilts people love.
I love all kinds of quilts; country quilts, floral quilts, big quilts, small quilts, window quilts, cute quilts. But I have to say that I think my favorite might be folk art quilts. Maybe. Or maybe it might be simple, prairie type quilts. I think I can’t decide. Your flowers are so pretty, and the little foxes on the cover of the book are so cute!
This looks like so a great book! Your design is so fun 🙂 My favorite type of quilt has stars in it! Thanks for the chance to win.
My grandson loves foxes so the “Fox in a Box” is perfect! I also love the “Sew, Sew, Sew” mini!
I love bold modern quilts in bright colors against white or gray. Thanks! notwendy gmail
i love all quilts and all sizes.
I am fairly new to quilting and have had great fun doing blocks of the month and learning new types of blocks and techniques. I have always favored old fashioned looking quilts but have tried a few modern designs and love them. Fun-Size Quilts looks like a fun book to use.
I love hand applique–quilts with both piecing and applique are my favorite. These mini quilts would be something new for me! Thanks for the giveaway!
I love the “Modern Traditionalist” style. Traditional blocks re-thought with modern fabrics, scale, and design elements.
I love the whimsy and movement that all of the projects seem to have in Fun Size Quilts. My family quilts and my roommate tend to steer to the traditional quilts, but I am more drawn to the modern or whimsical. If i just says, “Hey, I’m a quilt and I will always look like this and I always have, ” I am not attracted to spend so much of the time that it takes to create it. If the pattern says, “Hey, check me out!” I am totally into it and excited.
I like most traditional quilt patterns. I am mostly into machine embroidered quilts, but this book looks like a lot of fun. I really like your design & the bright colors.
I love all kinds of quilts, from scrap to paper pieced, and everything in between. My new love is mini’s, so fun to make and finish something so quickly.
I love quilts that are quick, easy and fun to make but also that are bright and colourful. I prefer using blocks to create a quilt but I also love applique quilts as it is easy to add fun elements to this style of quilt.
Basically, if I am making it and enjoying it then I like the pattern and style – not fussy!!
My favorite fabric and brights and florals. My current obsession is 3-D quilts. I’m currently working on Ladybugs and Dragonflies which is my first paper pieced quilt.
I like traditional and modern pieced quilts. I do a lot of kid-sized charity quilts for a kids chemo unit so I alter patterns to fit the needed size and get them done quickly.
Usually traditional / traditional-ish blocks that use a lot of squares (i.e. not a lot of rectangles). I don’t know how to machine quilt (I know that that puts me in a very small minority!) so I either tie or hand quilt.
Mixed media quilts.
I love paper piecing, but the minis are something I want to try !!
I just love quilts, all kinds! I grew up sleeping under the ones my grandma made. They can be practical, they can be art – or both!
I love all quilts and appreciate the work put in to making them!
Right now I love making hexagon quilts.
I’m a beginner, so I really like quilt kits at this point. I can’t even imagine designing one!
I love making mini quilts or mug rugs freestyle or paper pieced
I enjoy all types of quilts but ones that mix piecing and applique are favorites! Love your mini quilt, sew cute!
I like all kinds of quilts, traditional and modern.
I’m fairly new to sewing but I’m thinking the minis might be my fav!!
Quilting is one of my favorite things to do. My mother & grandmother taught me to quilt when I was young. We made handmade quilts, both pieced & pattern drawn on. I also love appliqued quilts. I guess you can say I’m a quilt nut.
I love modern with a bit of traditional.
I have been a traditional quilter for a long time, but the modern quilts have really been growing on me, & I have completed several projects
I love modern quilts!
Looks like a marvelous book!
I like pieced quilts much more than applique.
I really like paper piecing because of the end results but enjoy trying new techniques..
I really like all-solids quilts. Modern interpretations of Amish quilts (specific, I know!) are great.
I like to do paper piecing. I have also found my self making bags quite a bit. Your quilt is bright and cheery. Thank you for sharing your talent.
I love the huge patchwork quilts that my great grandmother used to make. I’d like to start quilting but I don’t have the patience to make a big one so the mini ones look super fun to me!
Congratulations! I think it turned out wonderful. I love the fun colors.
My favorite kind of quilt? I have only made a couple, but I like to make quilts for kids, something that sparks their imagination, or makes them want to use or show off their own quilt.
I like big block designs.
I like lots of different kinds of fabrics, but my most favorite kind of project to make is one for kids! I love working with batik fabrics and whimsical “kiddie” prints.
My favorite quilts are traditional blocks – usually in a star pattern
Log cabin is my favourite. Versatile and effective
I love modern appliqué quilts, the tulip one in your book looks fantastic.
Goodness my favorite quilt style changes often. I can say that I love fun, bright, happy colors in my quilts. Children or baby quilts tug at my heart the most.
Right now, I’m loving the modern quilts 🙂
I like the modern quilts that have a lot of negative space. Also batiks and bright colors. I think I would really enjoy the mini quilt.
I like all types!
I love English paper pieced quilts, especially hexies and tumbling blocks!
I love making all kinds of quilts, but my favorites tend to be smaller projects because they are easier to quilt on my standard sized machine. Thanks for the chance to win.
Congrats on your mini quilt being placed in the book. I have fallen in love with paper piecing quilting. I can take it with me and do it where ever I am when I have a few moments.
I love the quilts that my Grandmother and Great Grandmother hand pieced the best. They weren’t planned and fabric bought for that one quilt and they are all hand done and just gorgeous!!
I love to make up my own little pictorial quilts using appliqué. Also really enjoy doing scrap quilts. Feels so good to use up all those scraps! Your little quilt is darling!
I love lap quilts. They are wonderful to keep you warm on a chilly evening.
I love all quilts with bright colors especially the mini quilts which can be made in small spaces. My favorite quilt design is the dresdan because they look like beautiful flowers
There aren’t many quilts that I don’t like. However, I have decided I am going to have to resort to minis if I will be able to try all of the patterns I want to do.
i am new to sewing and am currently trying to teach myself to sew and quilt. my goal is to do my first patchwork quilting project by this time next year.
I love all kinds of quilts but mini quilts are so fast and fun and you can try new techniques without spending a lot of time.
Just started getting into quilting so I really don’t have a favorite – yet.
I love the colors of some of your projects. I am a beginner quilter and I am having fun!!!!
