Calling all quilters…. I want to sew with you in 2018! Each year, I like to plan out a few projects that we can sew together and Heartland Heritage is one of those projects.
I designed Heartland Heritage with my friend Amy Ellis and the results are scrap-tastic! The fun pattern is perfect for even the novice quilter. With each block your confidence will soar as your skills improve and you begin to challenge your color pallet. Each month I’ll be sharing my blocks and tips with you here. I’d love to have you join me on this fun adventure!
Since we have already made a full size quilt, we will be sharing an alternative layout for a baby quilt. The baby version includes just one of each block in the calendar and is your extra bonus for stitching along with us.
Heartland Heritage Details
The second Wednesday of each month, Amy and I will be posting our new blocks, made with fresh fabrics and a helpful hint or tip as needed. We are calling it our Sewday, and hope that you will join us. As you can see from the pictures above we both have a similar style but tend to pull from different areas of the color wheel. It’s really fun to find that we have the same fabric in different places in our quilts.
Pattern Details
Our first Inspiring Stitches pattern – Heartland Heritage is available in local shops all over the country and you can purchase online HERE, and lower in this post. The full size finished quilt measures 68″ x 74″ and is just the right size for snuggling under. But I almost forgot to mention the best part. Heartland Heritage is also a free standing calendar that will help keep you on track all year long.
Fabric Requirements
Heartland Heritage is perfect for those looking for help clearing out the scrap bin, that said I know some of you will want to use your favorite fat quarter bundle too! You will need a variety of at least 23 fat quarters, and 5 yards of background fabric for the background and borders.
Let’s Get Social
Each month the Inspiring Stitches blog will have a Linky for everyone to share a quick picture of their finished blocks in. This is a great way to explore new fabric options and how you might further customize your blocks month to month. You can also use #HeartlandHeritageSAL when posting to Instagram.
Heartland Heritage Pattern
We hope that you’ll join us for the 2018 Heartland Heritage sew along. Be sure to spread the love and share with a friend that is interested in learning or better yet, consider gifting it to them. Sewing together is a wonderful way to stay connected. Just think about fun trips shopping for fabric, sew sessions and memories made along the way.
Stay tuned – I’ll be back more details after the holidays, grab your pattern now so you are ready to sew along with us!

Do I buy the pattern somewhere? Or is it just printed on the calendar?

Heather, is there a certain fabric line we should/could be using for this or is this meant to be used with our scraps? We all know how you love the scraps. 😉
Heather says
Hello Cindy,
You are welcome to use any fabric line you live or work directly from your fabric stash. Amy & I made the cover quilts from scraps already on hand but my new version will be made with a big fat quarter bundle. I’ll be revealing it soon.

I received an email stating the first sew along for block #1 will be January 1, at 9 am and the following sew alongs will be the second Wednesday each month. Do we have to be present to participate or can we pull them up when it is convenient?
Heather says

I bought this calendar from the Fat Quarter shop. I don’t know how many I will make. They looked interesting, and I liked the idea of learning some new blocks. I like your site; you offer a lot of ideas!
Phyllis Latimer says
I’ve just bought your pattern along with a fat quarter bundle, but haven’t received it yet.
Where can I view you past videos/tutorials?
I probably won’t get it cut out for at least a month, so I’ll be at least 4 months behind.
Thanks
