We often get so in the zone of stitching our project that we miss opportunities to increase our productivity. So today, I am sharing my tips for using every last inch of fabric while making the loyal quilt block for the Friendship Quilt Along.
I love the simplicity of the Friendship Quilt Pattern for summer. It is one of those patterns that you can pick up and stitch just as block at a time without feeling guilty.
Friendship Quilt Along Details:
Each week throughout the summer, I will be joining the Friendship Quit Along fun with friends from around the industry. We hope to inspire you to stitch along and make a few new friends along the way. Each Friday, a new block will be released and in the end, they will create this whimsical pattern.

This week, you will need to make 2 versions of the loyal quilt block. The loyal block is made from a common construction known as flying geese.
The standard construction of this block produces waste that in my scrappy mind can still be used. So, rather than waste it, I have a few tips to use every last inch of your cut fabrics!
Loyal Quilt Block:
To make the most of my cutaway fabric pieces, I shifted my needle to the far right position and stitched again. Repeat on each unit.
After trimming away the seam allowance you will be left with an uncut HST. To trim them down to size, I used my Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer. This allowed me to made quick work at the cutting table.
As a result, this extra step allowed me to make 16 half square triangles 2 1/2″. I am not exactly sure how I will put them together yet but I know they will make a great accent piece on my project.
Now, let’s take a look at the finished loyal quilt blocks for this week.
Remember, I have many friends sewing along and sharing their helpful tips so, be sure to pay them a quick visit before you dive into your fabrics. You can find the full line up here.
