The past few weeks I’ve been busy sorting, organizing and doing my best to downsize my stash. In the process, I realized that most of the blocks in my library are not quick and easy to make. Well, that’s all about to change with this week’s Pinwheel Star.
At first glance, you might notice a glimpse of the friendship block hidden in the design. The Friendship block dates back to the days when the pioneer women would sew in secret with friends and family to make gifts for those heading out West.
Something about that simple act of giving brings me comfort as I stitch through my stash. At this point, I am not sure exactly what will happen with all of my makes but my local guild is working on a charity project that I plan to participate in.
To put my new Pinwheel Star quilt block to the test, I challenged myself to clear out my red scrap bin. As I sliced through my stash, I suddenly realized that I had more stuffed in that bin than I ever imagined.
My blocks quickly stacked up and before I knew it, I had 30 blocks stitched. To say that this pile came together quickly is an understatement. Dedicating just a few short hours a day, this quilt top came together in just a weekend.

I love these blocks, is this the first one you sent out in this series. It would be perfect for the scraps from quilts made and make it as you go like the Gypsy Wife Pattern.

I guess I must be blind. I don’t see a pinwheel, or a star.
Heather says
You can always make the pinwheel more pronounced with your fabric selections.
