Pumpkin spice and everything nice, that to me speaks volumes for fall! As the leaves start to turn and the landscape colors change, I keep thinking about visiting one of the local farms to pick pumpkins. So this week is all about pretty pumpkins quilt block.
This little tradition of picking out pumpkins at the local patch started when we lived in New Jersey, well before the kids were even born. Something about being outside in the cool crisp air and looking for that perfect pumpkin always got us excited.
Now picking pumpkins was no easy task because we each had different characteristics that were important to us. For me, the stem was extremely important. It had to be sturdy for holding and have an edgy-cool factor. I was always drawn to the curved twisted ones. But hubby was completely different, he wanted a round symmetrical shape pumpkin with no flat spots.
We would walk the patch for hours, enjoying the day, taking pictures, drinking cider and if we were lucky, snagging a few apple baked donuts.
Pretty Pumpkins Quilt Block Details
The Pretty Pumpkins quilt block is available in 2 different finished sizes. And you can see that I have included a few of our favorite characteristics within the block design.

Materials & Tool Supply List:
- Assorted Scraps: Oranges, Browns, & Background Prints
- Cutting mat/ Rotary cutter/ Quilt ruler
- Heat erasing marking tool
- Spray starch
The simple design and patchwork construction of this block make it perfect for quilters to use up their scrap leftovers. Some of the pieces on the 6″ finished block are small and can be tricker for new quilters, I am rating the skill level for this block perfect for the intermediate stitcher. *Note that the 6″ finished block requires 3/4″ wide-cut pieces.
