For today’s portion of our sew-along series, we’re going to put together the main body pieces of our sewing machine cover.
Sewing Machine Cover Pattern
This project is for all levels.
Skill Level- 1 1/2 Buttons
Supplies needed for today’s post:
- Sewing Machine
- Cut pattern pieces (more info here)
- Basic Sewing Supplies
- Heat Erasing Pen
- Coordinating Thread
*1/2″ seam allowance is used unless otherwise noted.
Sewing the Machine Cover:
- To make the side pocket, place 6 1/2″ of scrap binding pressed open flat and side pocket piece right sides together. Stitch pieces together with 3/4″ seam allowance. Press binding towards seam allowances, fold over seam allowance and press. Stitch in the ditch of edge stitch along the edge of binding through all layers. Position pocket and baste to one bottom edge of side panel.
- Repeat step 1 to create the large back pocket for your sewing machine cover. Layer large rectangle on the right side of back cover, lining up the raw edges, and baste in place at sides. Determine and mark the size of your pocket openings and stitch vertical lines down the full height of the pocket to create divisions. Adjust your machine set up to a small zig zag. Use this stitch to create reinforcement at the intersection of each stitch line and top pocket edge.
- Fold over and hem one lengthwise side of each top panel. Pin top panels with hem edge kissing and join together.
Repeat on other side panel to create one long strip. - Pin and join the side panel (right sides together) to the front cover. Be sure to line up seam allowance and pivot at each corner with the needle in the down position. Repeat to the backside cover. Clip corners and press.
That’s it for today! Come back tomorrow, when we’ll put the finishing touches on our sewing machine cover pattern!

It’s so nice of you for sharing the detailed instruction for sewing the machine cover. I was thinking to sew one but now with the help of these instructions I’ll create one. 🙂
