While the calendar states July, the dog days summer are here and that means easy sewing for me! To help me achieve success at the machine, aka, a finished project, I made this Directional quilt block.
The block stitches together quickly and the best part is the feeling of achievement at the machine. In just an afternoon, you can stitch a few blocks together, maybe even enough for an entire quilt. Talking about making the most of the summer heat!
Directional Quilt Block
The Directional quilt block is available in two finished sizes that measure:
- 6″ x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm)
- 12″ x 12″ (33 x 33 cm)
Materials & Supplies:
- Assorted Fabrics: Purple, Light Blue, Medium Blue, and Background Prints
- Cutting mat/ Rotary cutter/ Quilt ruler
- Heat erasing marking tool
- Spray starch
- Flatter Spray
- Sewing Machine
Now, even though the block is simple, it lends itself to interesting designs. Since my stash is running thin on the Dear Stella purple print, I’m hoping that I have enough to make this mini quilt.
Just by rotating the block in a clockwise pattern, it creates an inner pinwheel.
This simple block is easy to make, requires no special tools or templates, and highlights flying geese. It really is perfect for all skill levels!
The Directional quilt pattern is available for free until July 23rd, 2020, after that it will be available for purchase in the shop. Just click the button below, add the pattern to your cart and follow the prompts for check out.
Since many of us busy sorting out the “new” back to school season, I understand that you may not have time to stitch this block right away. So, be sure to PIN THIS block to your favorite quilting board on Pinterest. This way when you are ready, you can find it quickly just by looking through your pins. One glance and you’ll be able to see all of the patterns you already have the pattern in your library!
