As the year winds down and the world outside softens into shades that evoke quiet elegance, coziness, and the crispness of the season, December invites us to embrace the calm beauty of winter whites and neutrals. This month’s color sewing challenge is all about capturing that serene palette—think creamy ivories, soft oatmeals, misty greys, and the palest blushes that echo snow-dusted mornings and candlelit evenings. Welcome to the Winter Whites & Neutrals Challenge!

What is the Winter Whites & Neutrals Challenge?
It’s a month-long invitation to dive into your stash, pull out every white-to-neutral fabric you can find, and create something timeless. Whether you’re stitching a quilt block, a table runner, minimalist home decor, or a heartfelt gift, the only rule is: whites and neutrals take center stage.

How to join the challenge?
- Choose your project: Big or small, practical or whimsical—anything goes!
- Remember, the goal is to stitch every last inch of your stash, so no shopping trips allowed. Just you, your scraps, and your imagination.
- Feature whites and neutrals: Use them as the main color and in unexpected textures (think velvet or metallic accents).
- Share your progress in the Scrappy Girls Club with #ScrappyGirlsChallenge and tag me so I can cheer you on!
- To get the party started, we are including a free printable project sheet. Simply click below to download and print at home.

Why Winter Whites & Neutrals?
Winter whites aren’t just elegant—they’re versatile. While bright, bold colors often steal the show, neutral-toned scrappy projects bring an understated elegance that stands the test of time. Neutrals don’t mean boring. Layering textures—like boucle, linen, flannel, or velvet—adds depth and warmth to even the simplest palette. Try pairing a soft dove grey with a warm taupe, or mix creamy whites with natural cottons for a rustic winter vibe. Metallic accents like champagne gold or brushed silver can elevate your project with a subtle festive shimmer.
