February is often considered the month of love. February invites us to explore warmth and bold expression in shades of red. This month’s color sewing challenge is all about stitching with passion using colors from deep burgundy to playful cherry and fiery scarlet to soft rose. Welcome to the Shades of Red Challenge!

What is the Shades of Red Challenge?
It’s a month-long invitation to dive into your stash, pull out every red fabric you can find, and create something timeless. Whether you’re stitching a quilt block, a table runner, minimalist home decor, or a heartfelt gift, the only rule is: shades of red take center stage.

How to join the challenge?
- Choose your project: Big or small, practical or whimsical—anything goes!
- Remember, the goal is to stitch every last inch of your stash, so no shopping trips allowed. Just you, your scraps, and your imagination.
- Feature shades of red: Use them as the main color for your statement piece.
- Share your progress in the Scrappy Girls Club with #ScrappyGirlsChallenge and tag me so I can cheer you on!

Why Red?
Red is more than just a color; it’s an emotion. Red symbolizes love, strength, courage, and joy. Shades of crimson and burgundy bring to mind elegance and richness. Scarlet scraps are ideal for bold and playful quilts. Rose and blush hues are soft and romantic, while rust and brick hues add warmth and depth. Every shade can play a role in your quilt design. Get inspired by these red scrappy projects.
A huge shoutout to everyone who’s joining the Shades of Red Challenge. You’ll turn tiny scraps into incredible works of art!

Need some inspiration? No worries, I get it! Here are a few of my favorite makes pulled straight from my stash.

I designed the Leader Board quilt to help you make the most of your fabric leftovers! Because I know just how important those little bits are and the results are stunning! You can see my finished quilt here.

Color Story is another personal favorite of mine! Originally designed as a monochromatic quilt that highlights shades and value, this pattern is also perfect for stitching the rainbow. You can find my pattern and see my finished quilts here.
