Today’s work in progress has been in motion for over a year now and you have no idea just how excited I am to share the news with you. You can now find several of The Sewing Loft designs in print with Simplicity. (It was a super hard secret to keep!)
The Sewing Loft Designs
It all just happened by chance, I was at a conference, dog tired from the day and just wanted to mentally turn off for the night. So, I found a group crafting and asked if I could join them. Looking back, it was my first big conference and I was feeling overwhelmed by everything and everyone. I just wanted to sit on the couch, chat with a few new friends, tune out and craft. As it turns out, I was sitting next to the Simplicity team all night long and had no idea. Fast forward to today and the rest is history.
My backpack designs were selected and now the patterns can be found anywhere that carries the Simplicity brand. Think Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Stores, Hobby Lobby, Hancock Fabrics and Walmart just to name a few. You can Spy them in the early autumn book and also on-line here.
This week with my daughter in tow, I went to the local store and was in complete shock when I saw them. It was one thing to know that they were coming to market but entirely different to see them in person. You need to understand that this is a brand that I grew up sewing, a brand that I looked to for inspiration and brand that my mother loved. I am truly filled with emotions, grateful for the opportunity and beyond honored. It is a true pinch me moment.
To help kick-start the pattern launch in style, I have partnered with some amazing friends and put together 3 packages for you to create your own backpacks.
Each prize package will include: Simplicity Pattern #1602, an 18 spool thread assortment from Coats & Clark, Magnetic closures from Dritz, all the fusible & interfacing needed to complete your project from Pellon and a $25 gift card from JoAnn Fabric & Craft Stores to select your fabric. Basically, all the fixings to create your own backpack.
Wishing you the best of luck!

Congratulations!!! That is absolutely fantastic, Heather! I’m a beginning BEGINNER sewist. I can sew a straight line and that’s about it! HA! My Mom made all my clothes in my growing up years and worked full time to boot. She would make our clothes at night. When we wanted something new, she insisted it had to be a Simplicity pattern! This is awesome!
Heather says
My mom made a ton of my clothes Camille. I grew up watching her on the machine and she treated it like gold. It was her special time and I loved watching.

Just wondering if this comp is open worldwide? I’m assuming not. I’ll check out the pattern online anyways. Well done again!
