My wheels have been turning ever since I asked what your sewing splurge would be and now, I have some exciting news to share! This past month I have been busy as a bee behind the screen putting something fun together. It was so hard to keep this secret to myself and I am super excited to finally let the cat out of the bag….We are going sailing!
That’s right, I have teamed up with two incredibly talented friends, Stitchin’ Heaven and Royal Caribbean to put together this super fun Scrappy Girls Club cruise.
Stitching at Sea
We are teaching on a cruise!
Becky , Caroline and I will be sailing and stitching around the Caribbean together. That’s right, we are clearing our calendars, packing our bags and gearing up to a fun week of stitching at sea on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas ship. Let’s breakdown the classes.
The Classes & Sewing Times:
Garden Baskets
Walk along the picket fence and pick flowers for your basket with the Garden Baskets Quilt from Becky Jorgensen of Patchwork Posse. Learn how to sew half square triangles quickly, square up quilt blocks, and applique. You can choose to use wool or cotton for your baskets and flowers. Go dark and dirty for a fall look or pick bright and light fabrics for spring. Either way this quilt is great for a wall hanging or table topper. Garden Baskets quilt measures 25” X 25”.
Kalidescope Stars
Jump into modern quilting with the gorgeous Kaleidoscope Stars quilt from Caroline Fairbanks-Critchfield or SewCanShe.
You will learn how to make to make the beautiful star block that incorporates solids and prints as well as improvisational piecing. Then you can decide how many blocks to make and learn how to arrange them on a grid design so they appear to ‘float’ on your quilt… in any configuration you choose!
Caroline’s Kaleidoscope Stars quilt measures 44”x50”, but the limits of your design are up to you!
Stackable Scrap Bucket Baskets
Not sure what to do with those small scraps of fabric you’ve squirreled away? Or better yet, how do you store them? Well these scrap buckets are the perfect plan!
I will help you transform scraps into full fabric yardage through improv piecing and quilt as you go stitching. Toss in a few decorative stitches and no two baskets will look the same. After you have mastered the fabric techniques you will stitch up and complete the medium size bucket in class. The two additional size baskets are available to stitch up during open sew time. Buckets will neatly stack inside each other.
* Class will focus on creating yardage from smaller fabric scraps; improve piecing, quilt as you go techniques and stitching with heavier weight fusible.
