Each October, I’m reminded just how powerful our creative community can be. The ByAnnie SewPink 2025 Initiative is one of those special projects that brings us all together as a community. Not only is it raising awareness for breast cancer, but it is also shining a light on the strength, compassion, and creativity that lives within our community all year long.

I love that ByAnnie doesn’t just stop at awareness. They highlight stories, projects, and voices throughout the year, reminding us that hope and healing can take many forms.
Like so many of you, my family has been touched by cancer in more ways than one. It’s a word that instantly changes everything. Routines, plans, even how we look at tomorrow. But what’s often overlooked is that cancer doesn’t only affect the person battling it. It ripples out, touching caregivers, family members, and friends who are also doing their best to stay strong. While they might not be fighting the disease inside their own bodies, they’re still fighting. Fighting for balance, fighting for peace, and fighting for the person they love. The emotional weight, the sleepless nights, and the quiet moments of helplessness, those are real battles too.
This year, as part of the SewPink Initiative, I wanted to create something that serves as a gentle reminder for anyone walking alongside a loved one in that fight. A reminder to breathe, to get up, and to go do the things we love, no matter how silly or small. The things we’ve dreamed about. The things that fill our cups.

To help ensure that my loved one can be ready at a moment’s notice, I stitched up a Drop Zone Bag in shades of purple and pink. These colors represent bladder and breast cancer, the two cancers that are directly impacting my family. This handy little bag is small enough to slip into any tote, yet opens wide so you can see everything you need at a glance. It’s a perfect everyday companion, one that feels both practical and meaningful.
To make it extra special, I featured the Windmill quilt block from my Blocks2Quilt collection on the outside. The name felt fitting, a sweet reminder not to get too fixated on the chaos or fear that can cloud our focus. Sometimes, stepping back, taking a deep breath, and finding a moment of joy (even a tiny one) can help us refresh.
I hope my project inspires you to make something that holds personal meaning. Whether it’s a gift for someone in treatment, a comforting project for yourself, or a creative expression of hope.
