It’s week 2 of the Friendship Quilt Along and I’m excited to share block number 2, the Trustworthy quilt block. This block is simple with straight lines but is created with a different technique called paper pieced.
Let’s chat a bit before we get into the details of the block. Last week when I shared this block in Scrappy Girls Club, a few of you reached out and asked if you could still participate if you were not using the fabric. The answer is without a doubt YES!! The Friendship quilt pattern and sew along is open to everyone no matter what fabrics you choose.

Trustworthy Quilt Block:
The Trustworthy block is all about clean straight lines and this is achieved through a technique called paper pieced. If you have never quilted with this method, it is not difficult. It just takes a little pre game work. Start by printing out the template and double checking the 1″ test square for accuracy.
Then it’s all about making sure that each piece will cover it’s placement once folded over. To help test for placement, I like to use good old Mother Nature and my window.
I line everything up and place it on the window to make sure it will be stitching through all layers.
A good pressing will do wonders to making sure that the fabric is nice and flat. This helps ensure that the block will be to size when finished.
For me, the best part of paper piecing is seeing the transformation of the pieced fabrics into a clean block.
Now, be sure to see what fun things my friends stitched up on their blocks. You can see the full line up here.
