Have you seen the new Quilted Tree Skirt Class with Caroline Fairbanks-Critchfield on Craftsy? If the answer is no, then my question to you is why not?
Since Caroline is a personal friend it was so fun to hear her voice and watch her teach but the best part is now, I’m one step closer to tackling the holiday list!
Quilted Tree Skirt Class
Now, let’s take a look at the class. During the videos Caroline shows you just how easy it is to transform pre cut jelly rolls into a finished project.
Video Lessons Include:
- Piecing the blades
- Sewing the blades to batting
- Assembling the skirt
- Quilting & Embellishing
I don’t want to spoil the class for you but I can tell you that there is even a coloring page to help you design your tree skirt.
Since my family is kinda smitten with our quilted tree skirt, I switched things up and turned mine into a table topper. To do so, I made the following modifications:
- Printed the template off at 50% and reduced my strips to 1 1/2″ wide.
- Substituted Insul-Bright for batting.
- Omitted the buttons & elastic.
- Assembled the blades in a complete circle and added an applique with heat n bond lite to the top.
Once I had the blades cut out I went straight to work joining them together. I actually used my serger for this step.
Sometimes I just have the urge to serge and need to pull my Baby Lock Imagine out of the closet. The blade makes every seams perfectly sized and the overlock stitch keeps everything neat and clean. Pure perfection!
I’m loving the way it turned out and know that it will be put to good use this holiday season! My finished skirt measures 25″ from blade point to blade point.
Now, that I have my quilted tree skirt table topper complete, I know that I can use it for so many different things. Like a hot pad for any holiday serving dishes, a center piece mat for candles or even a decorative mat under a poinsettia plant. The Insul-Bright really allows for so many options.
No matter what size you make, I’m sure this quilted tree skirt it will quickly become one of your favorite holiday decor pieces for years to come.
