Ballpoint needle –
noun
- a sewing needle with a rounded tip used for sewing on knit or other stretch fabrics.
A ballpoint needle has a rounded tip instead of a pointed one which allows it to separate the fibers in a knit or stretch fabric. This “gentle” separation allows it to pull thread through those fibers, instead of jabbing through them like a straight needle. The ballpoint needle makes it easier to sew with stretch fabrics without stretching out the seams or ripping the fabric.
Ballpoint Needle Stats-
- Size: Standard size range: 70/10, 80/12, 90/14, 100/16
- What to make: Great for sewing with knits and some stretch fabrics.
- When to change: It is suggested that needles be changed out after every 6-8 hours of sewing but frankly this depends on the type of stitching you do and how hard you are on your machine.
- Where to buy: Available at local fabric, craft and quilt shops or here on line.
