After a few weeks of sharing patchwork blocks, I find myself missing the fun of the themed versions. I’m not sure what it is exactly but the whimsical results of creating quilt blocks from straight lines really seem to fill my creative tank. So, without further ado, let’s welcome the Bumble Bee quilt block to the series.
This little block was actually inspired by my friendly little carpenter bee that returns to my house every year to start a new family.
Bumble Bee Quilt Block Details
Finished Bumble Bee Quilt blocks measure:
- 6″ x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm)
- 12″ x 12″ (33 x 33 cm)
Material & Tool Supply List:
- Assorted Scraps: Blue, Black, Yellow & Light Gray Prints
- Cutting mat/ Rotary cutter/ Quilt ruler
- Heat erasing marking tool
- Spray starch
Due to the small pieces, angled trimming and bias grain, I’m labeling this block for the confident beginner. Overall, the construction is a simple patchwork but the smaller pieces can make things tricky for the newbie. I highly suggest starch!
This week you can add the Bumble Bee quilt block pattern to your library for free after that, it will be available for sale in the shop.
I can’t wait to see fabrics you stitch up and would love to see a few pictures of your finished blocks. Please be sure to add the hashtags #Blocks2Quilt and #TheSewingLoft on your photos so we can all see.
Be sure to sign up for the Blocks 2 Quilt newsletter and never miss a block again and click here to see all of the blocks previously shared.
Remember, each week a new block in the series will be released and you won’t want to miss out. Be sure to sign up for my newsletter below and have the block articles delivered straight to your inbox each week.

Hi Heather…I really appreciate you giving us the bumble bee block for free. Especially since I love everything “bee”…lol. But I have done it twice but when I go to download it from the email you send, it comes up as “404-page not found”. Wondering if you could help? I am so sorry to bother you. quilty hugs, Deb

So this has happened to me also but in a kind of different way. I get an email saying ‘bumblebee Block’ and go to download it and I get, in this case, the Zinnia Flowers block and the bumble bee isn’t available for free. I just download whatever one comes up as the free one.

Hello Greta,
Thank you for your note. It’s always hard to hear when people are having trouble but feedback is helpful. Throughout the Blocks 2 Quilt series, each block is available for one week. After that, it is available for purchase in the shop. I suggest that those interested sign up for my newsletter and check the site each Friday. This way, they won’t miss any of the designs. Currently, the Zinnia Flowers block is available for free. So be sure to download it before the next one is released.
