Attachment lines –
noun
- Markings on a printed pattern piece indicate where to join two or more pattern pieces prior to cutting the fabric.
Pattern attachment lines usually on PDF Internet patterns show where to join two pattern pieces to create one large single piece. Standard printer paper measures 8.5 X 11″ and usually is not large enough to accommodate a larger single pattern piece. The attachment lines are the guidelines of where to attach each piece to create the final pattern piece.
The attachment lines on the printed pattern are your road map on how to properly connect two or more fractional pieces of a pattern correctly. They are especially important on downloadable patterns, since most standard printer paper is not large enough to fit an entire pattern piece. When you have a pattern that has attachment lines, you need to line up the attachment lines as directed and tape the pattern pieces together before pinning and cutting out your fabric.
Pattern Attachment Lines-
- Size: Every pattern is different based on what you are making. For example a small hand bag might have only one point of attachment while something larger like a trench coat may require several points of attachment to complete the final pattern piece size.
- How: Refer to the pattern key code; match lines and tape in place.
- What: Attachment lines are shown on PDF patterns where it is required to join two or more PDF generated pattern pieces. These attachment lines ensure proper pattern line up.
- Where: Line placement is based on each individual pattern. They will appear on the pattern piece showing placement location as needed.
