Do you have a favorite shirt or jacket with buttons on it? Basic wear and tear can cause threads to unravel, making our buttons loose. Replacing a button can be a challenge because there are times when it is next to impossible to find a matching button and thread. One way to add an extra layer of security and keep those buttons in place is by adding clear nail polish to the threads.
Stay Put Buttons
This sewing tip is for all levels.
Skill Level- 1 Button
After sewing on your buttons, simply do the following:
- Check to make sure your button(s) are secure.
- Open your clear nail polish and lightly dab the nail polish on the surface of the button.
- Let the nail polish dry and you’re all done.
Bonus, you can also use it as a top coat when painting nails. Remember, less is more. The goal is to get polish on just the surface of the button and not the fabric.
So the next time you bring home a new jacket or finishing making that garment be sure to add an extra layer of protection to your buttons with this no sew quick tip. It is a sure fire way to keep all your buttons in place.
