The Urban Trellis mini quilt finishes at 18 1/2″ x 18 1/2″. The addition of a simple setting is a fun way to expand your quilt knowledge and increase your project size. It pattern is designed to help you practice setting options and I even have a great tip to show you how!
But it doesn’t stop there. For those of you not familiar with sewing on the bias, this design is perfect practice. To help keep your cotton fabrics lined up, I have one more suggestion…. starch! Giving your fabric an extra spritz of starch before cutting will help prevent stretching during sewing at the final stage.
My Urban Trellis Mini Quilt
Once my pieces were cut, the project really went together fast. You can see that I chose a much softer color pallet than what comes in the kit and I’m loving the way the colors come together.
After getting the center unit all stitched in place, I was nervous to slice it up but luckily my ruler has the 45° angles clearly marked so it was a dream!
Then it was time to put the borders on and everything lined up picture perfect.
I really love the way it all came together.
ps- Even the scraps looked yummy! After cutting the center unit down to size, I just couldn’t bring myself to tossing away the scraps. So, I grabbed my Clearly Perfect Slotted ruler, a mini rotary cutter and turned them into a few HST’s.
Remember, you can find all of the Quiltologie Mini Mania quilt kits by Fabric Editions at your local Jo-Ann Fabric Store and Craft Stores.
