When we think of scrap projects, we often associate them with smaller scales. Mini wallets, mug rugs, and ornaments come to mind. But just because you’re using smaller pieces of fabric doesn’t mean you have to make a small project – Kim of Persimon Dreams is here to prove that! Prepare to be jealous – Kim says she never has to sneak her fabric stash past her husband! “His mom is a quilter so he grew up just knowing that a quilter NEEDS to have ridiculous amounts of fabrics,” she says. What a lucky lady!
Kim’s contribution to the National Sewing Month scrap series will show you that small scraps can make a big impact in a quilt! Take it away, Kim …
I am doing a ‘Dreaming in Fabric’ quilt along that focuses on using up your scraps. If you’ve got a scrap stash, you can make this quilt! You can find all the details in this post, and the first block is here in this one. The idea is to have fun through a mystery quilt-along and find inspiration to dig through that scrap basket and make something big!
Here’s a picture of the first block, which is pretty scrap-happy all on its own:
That little hula hoop gal is my favorite! But look how even MORE impressive it gets when you put four of them together:
This is such a perfect example of how tiny scraps can make a BIG impact in a finished project! Kim’s careful selection of fabric shades is what really makes this project shine, so follow along with her mystery quilt-along and you won’t be disappointed in the results!
