It’s time to share the next block from Heartland Heritage with you today. This willow tree quilt block is giving me the feels! It’s almost time for the fall leaves to arrive and we can’t wait to enjoy the pretty colors.
The Willow Tree quilt block is all about HST’s and matching points. The block finishes 12″ square and you will need to make 4 finished blocks to complete your Heartland Heritage quilt. Here are a few blocks to help inspire you.
Willow Tree Quilt Block
While I’m sure most folks will reach for the green scraps in their stash, I thought it would be fun to use a few colorful prints. I just wanted to experiment with the weather changing and am excited to see these fabrics stitched together.
Throughout the Heartland Heritage quilt along, I have chatted about key tips for HST’s. They include the laser guide beam, 1/4″ seam allowance, and my favorite ruler for the job!
Trimming these babies is truly a breeze with the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmers ruler. One look at my quick video and see what I mean!
Assembly on this block can be tricky so I highly suggest that you take the time to lay it out. I just placed it on my table next to my machine and picked up the pieces as needed.
Willow Tree Quilt Block Photo Finish
While the Willow Tree quilt block was designed for the Heartland Heritage quilt, it is perfect for other types of projects too. Honestly, larger blocks like this can be turned into so many things. From pillows, mini-quilts, storage containers, and wall hangings, the possibilities are endless. I love the way they looked grouped together to create a bench pillow.
Now, don’t forget, you will need to complete 4 Willow Tree quilt blocks for your quilt top. Please be sure to share a few pictures because I want to see what fabrics you stitch up! You can post them in my scrap happy community or on social media with the hashtag #TheSewingLoft or #heartlandheritagebom. This way, we can all see and celebrate your latest sewing success!
